It is one of the seven wonders of Cape Verde, located to the west of the Bay of Porto Grande, in front of the City of Mindelo, was formerly known as Monte Nelson, Mount Washington or cabeça de Washington, Monte Cara is an inescapable icon of São Vincente and Cape Verde. Its name is due to the fact that its clipping resembles a human face looking at the Sky. Eternized in the music of Cape Verde by one of the biggest voices of the islands, Cesária Évora, Monte Cara is scaled by tourists and nationals who venture on Fundo de Ladera. But it is during the sunset, now reddish, sometimes more orange, among the clouds, that this mountain presents its most sublime form.
